Overview
The $1 billion Bruce Highway Upgrade – Cooroy to Curra, Section D project involves a 26km upgrade and realignment of the Bruce Highway between Woondum and Curra. Bielby Holdings in joint venture are delivering a 12km-section of new four-lane divided highway from the Woondum Interchange to Sandy Creek Road, Veteran.
The scope of works includes
- Construction of 12km of new four-lane divided highway with concrete median barrier from the Woondum Interchange to Sandy Creek Road, Veteran
- More than 3,300,000m3 of earthworks
- Construction of two major interchanges
- 23 new bridges over significant waterways, local roads, and the North Coast Rail Line
- Connection with the recently completed four-lane Bruce Highway at Woondum interchange
- Upgrade and realignment of local roads and property access
- ITS, lighting and major drainage structures
Deliverables
- 1,700,000m2 clearing
- 3,300,000m3 cut to fill earthworks including drilling and blasting of rock
- 160,000 tonnes asphalt pavements
- Average between 4m to 35m deep cuts across the alignment
- Fill exceeding 20m in height
- 23 bridges over the existing Bruce Highway, the local road network, the North Coast Rail Line and rivers/creeks
- Construction of a new Vehicle Dynamics Area for the Roadcraft Driver Training facility
- Support local industry participation and workforce development opportunities
- TMR prescribed Infrastructure Sustainability Council benchmark credits including renewable energy, waste, water usage targets
