Overview
Delivered under a Collaborative Project Agreement, the project covered a 3km section of the Ipswich Motorway between Granard Road, Rocklea to the east of Oxley Road, Oxley. Forming one of Brisbane’s busiest arterial roads, the Ipswich Motorway carries around 85,000 vehicles each day and services residential, industrial, and commercial neighbourhoods, providing an essential link between Ipswich and Brisbane city’s southern suburbs. Constructed in a flood plain, the project had numerous benefits for users and the wider community including:
- Providing safer access to and from the motorway
- Increasing the motorway’s capacity
- Constructing seven new higher bridges over the Oxley Creek area
- Providing improved active transport facilities
- Providing better local road connectivity
The scope of works included
- Designing and constructing a 3km section of one of Brisbane’s busiest arterial roads
- Constructing seven new bridges
- Upgrading the Ipswich Motorway from four to six lanes
- Building a new 1.5km local connection road
- Management of 85,000 vehicles per day
- Raising the motorway by 3m across the floodplain
- Extensive community and stakeholder management with more than 130 directly affected businesses
- Management of an environmentally sensitive/flood prone environment with multiple creek crossings and fish management at Oxley Creek, Oxley Overflow and Little Doris Creek
- Infrastructure Sustainability Council registered project with an Excellent score achieved for both Design and Construction phases
